<< Reynolds is mentioned in a footnote to the The First Army Corps on page
155
(Vol. 27, Part 1) as follows: "Maj. Gen. John F. Reynolds, of this corps,
was killed July 1, while in command of the left wing of the army; General
Doubleday commanded the corps July 1, and General Newton, who was assigned
to that command on the 1st, superseded him July 2." >>
He's also listed under the 1st Corps in the casualty returns (page 173),
with a reference back to this same footnote. In addition, on page 190, in
the list of officers killed, under U.S. Volunteers, since he was not by
virtue of his rank and position a member of any specific state formation.
Note that the Order of Battle really only addresses the matter of Wings by
way of mention in footnotes pertaining to Reynolds and Slocum, which shows
how the Wings, when used, were ad hoc structures and not formal OOB
formations as were Corps, divisions, etc.
