First of all, apart from an exercise in photo interpretation, it really 
makes no difference at all whether the body was carried to the 
sharpshooter's position, or from it.

That said, I think Groves has, to put it mildly, gone off the deep end not 
only in many of his points of analysis, but, more importantly, in his 
suggestions the photograph was extensively doctored after the fact.  He 
never stops to ask himself what I see as the most fundamental question of 
all.  That is, for what earthy reason would anybody at the time have gone to 
all the trouble, even if the photographic technology of the time would have 
allowed the kind of detailed, subtle changes he alleges?  Who, after all, 
was going to care one way or the other?

Frankly, I think the titles of his paintings of the Sharpshooter's position 
says a lot about his approach to the matter.
