And to look a bit earlier during the nineteenth century, we  can compare an 
author/celebrity who died in 1849.  According to  Michael J. Deas in his "The 
Portraits and Daguerrotypes of Edgar Allen Poe",  there are only eight known 
authentic photographs of Poe.
