John,
Just spent three days in the rain and cold at Gettysburg Campground on the
Fairfield Road (Rte. 116). Although we were in an RV, there were three
large encampments of scouts at the campground. This CG has large wooded
areas for tenting which are out of the way of the RV's. Staff is very
friendly and helpful, and the campground has a lot of activities for kids
(movies at night, big rec hall, miniature golf). We have tried many of the
CG's around Gettysburg, and, IMHO, this is how they stack up:
Artillery Ridge - pretty nice for RV's, not sure about tenting
(we were there in November 2006)
Drummer Boy- very expensive; former owners ran a nice CG, now
corporate ownership has resulted in decline
Gettysburg CG - some RV's around periphery of CG, tenting area,
groups apparently welcome, we like this one
KOA - typical KOA, designed for RV's, nice heavily-wooded CG,
but not for tenters, in my opinion
Round Top- also nice for RV's, large tenting area as I remember.
Regards,
Jack Kelly
