The very first attempt to codify the "Laws" of war was the United States
Army's General Orders No 100, issued in 1863. It remained in force for US
troops until the First World War, and became the basis of the various
"Geneva conventions."

Hello,
Was there anything like the Geneva Conventions - formal or informal
agreements on the "rules" of war?
Take Care
