Hi Dick -

First, and foremost, I did not say any such thing. What I did say was:

It's my personal feeling about the topic - I did not realize that this 
type of weaponry was in use at Gettysburg. It disabused me of certain 
naive assumptions about this time-period. It intruded upon my thoughts 
in general, and thus it disturbed me. I specifically chose the term 
"disturb" for those reasons.

I most certainly am not trying to judge the combatants of the ACW, if 
that's what you are stating. And I can't fathom why you thought I was 
holding them to a higher standard than soldiers from other eras. I don't 
ever recall mentioning anything beyond the the 2nd New Hampshire at 
Gettysburg.
