GDG- Camp Letterman and preservation

How long has the monument been there?  Andddddd whats the big deal about
leaving it where it has been for probably now 100 + years!?!?!?!?!

This deeply saddens me.   Geezzz you would think some one could propose that
they leave a small section where story boards and a small memorial park
could be left!!! Or even a small area where the Cemetery was!!!! 

Sighhhhhhhhh.. Thank you!!!!!!!

Jim,
At least part of it is a forgone conclusion.  Target has already gone 
through part of the permit process for a large portion that includes the 
former trailer park.  According to the maps yesterday this is where a large 
portion of the hospital tents were located!  Part of the walk yesterday 
included the discovery of what appears to be archeological pits dug in the 
back section where S&A Homes propose to build God knows how many homes. 
This area will include what was the cemetery for Camp Letterman!

It is highly doubtful any of it will be saved.  The only real issue to be 
fought is whether or not Target will be allowed to move the Field Hospital 
marker now located along Route 30.  They have made public statements that 
that is where their main entrance will be and that they would like to move 
the marker to an obscure spot behind the store.
