Along the banks of the Presumscot River in Gorham, ME, (a nice canoe or
kayak trip) you can find the remains of the Gambo Powder Mills which were
later incorporated into the Dupont Mills.   Built in 1824, it became part of
the Oriental Powder Mills in 1859 and later the Dupont Powder Mill, which
ran until 1905. It was once the 4th largest powder mill in the country.
During the Civil War the mill ran 24/7 producing 2 1/2 million pounds of
