<< Jim Cameron, could you elaborate briefly on the flag preservation
facility
in Harrisburg. That might be a good possibility in conjunction with the
National Civil War Museum for a one-day trip. Are there other worthwhile
CW-related things to do or see in Harrisburg (in order to consider options)?

The facility is just a few blocks from the State Capital building, which
would also be worth a visit and tour. I don't have the exact address, but
it's in the most non-descript commercial building you've ever seen. Nothing
to suggest what's inside.

The facility is where all the PA CW battleflags are preserved (not restored,
all that's left of some are fragments or just the fringe) and stored. Just
seeing the processes by which these very delicate flags, most of which were
improperly stored for decades, are unfurled and stabilized is an education
in itself.

Also at the facility are the flag staffs, stored in their on specially
constructed racks. To me, these were every bit as evocative as the flags
themselves, with their bullet scars and field repairs.
