Todd,

Do you have the History of the 153rd Written by W.R. Kiefer?

My wife is a descendant of John Wonderly (Wunderling) of Company A from
Nazareth.

Are you looking for anything specific? My wife and I would be more than
happy to check the Easton and Nazareth Historical Societies.

Regards,

Anthony Christ

I URGE everyone to get prventive care as well. YOU DO NOT WANT TO GET LYME
DISEASE OR ITS CO_INFECTIONS. I went for five years of being practiclly
houseridden beofre being diagnosed. Last year I was bitten by a Dermacentor
variabilis, dog tick, which carries Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and
Babesia. I ended up with Babesia. So be careful. I love Gettysburg but even
if its 100 degrees I wear long sleeves and pants. It takes months to recover

from lyme. I was diagnosed in Sept of last year. I am 50 percent better but
still suffer from swollen joints and chronic pain.

Pershing was General of the Armies, the first of that rank since Washington.

Marshall, MacArthur, Ike, Hap Arnold, and Bradley, in that order were
Generals of the Army, 5 star rank, which perhaps means that Pershing was a 6
star general.

Leahy, King, Nimitz, and Halsey were Admirals of the Fleet, in that order.

Add George Dewy as Admiral of the Navy, also 6 star rank.

That will teach me to rely on my memory.<g> You are correct. Eisenhower's
title was General of the Army, which has been held by only four other men
since the most recent legislation (Post Civil War legislation conferred it
on Grant, Sherman, and Sheridan) creating it as a temporary grade was passed
in December 14, 1944, (George Marshall, Douglas McArthur, Hap Arnold (later
changed to General of the Air Force), and Omar Bradley). The rank was made
permanent by Congress in 1946. The title General of the Armies is
associated with George Washington, who never held it (it was conferred
posthumously), but the only holder, as you noted, was John Pershing, to whom
Congress conferred the rank by legislation in 1919 to honor his wartime
service. However, according to the US Army Center for Military History web
site, Pershing never wore more than 4 stars, while, after the 1944
legislation, Army regulations specified 5 stars for the rank of General of
the Army.

Regards,

Margaret

Henry Harley Arnold (aka "Hap"), USMA 1907, became the only person to
hold five-star rank in two separate armed services of the United States,
picking up the USAF rank in 1949.

Would that be O-11?

Maybe, but originally five-star rank had no pay grade. O-8 encompassed all
of the stars except 5. I believe that caused bureaucratic problems in the
services when retirement pay was to be calculated.
