Should have engaged Mr. Newton two years ago. My stepson-in-law, an active duty Army Captain in the Artillery and history buff, came East for a visit. We went on an all-day tour of the Battlefield that he thoroughly enjoyed. Standing Cemetery Ridge, looking toward the distant Virginia Monument, he said, "Now I understand "artillery platform..."

(snip) As far as cannons are concerned you will find Silent Sentinels A
reference guide to the artillery at Gettysburg By George W. Newton as about as
informative concerning the arty at Gettysburg During the Battle and how it was
collected recreated and refurbed to make the park as realistic as possible.
Another great read and well worth the 29.95 I spent on it. Another real cool way
to learn about the arty at Gettysburg is to try to get Mr. Newton to do a
Guided tour about it since he is a GLBG.(snip)
