Doug.....
It's a great little tour book. It includes the memories of the battle, has a civil history, and goes into what happened at the various tour stops. It also includes neat compasses in the book that show you directions of other sites from where you are standing. It also has a good section on the cemetery, Katalysine Springs, the Springs Hotel and other sites that were popular when it was published in 1878. One of my favorite passages is:
"If you have ever ridden on horseback this will be an excellent occasion to continue the practice; nor should those but little accustomed to this exercise be deterred from the attempt. There is no necessity for fast riding, indeed it is not expected, and the most timid should not hesitte. Ladies will find it prudent to take a riding-skirt from home, rather than rely on getting one in town."
