GDG- Black Officers in The Civil War

I recall reading that only around 100 blacks were commissioned as offictrs
during the war. Dr. Alexander T. Augusta, a black doctor, (1825-1890) was a
brevet lt. colonel by the end of the war, making him the the highest
ranking black in the war  Despite being a commissioned officer, he was paid
enlisted wages. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
