Just got a mailing from the Gettysburg Foundation (Friends) showing the layout of the new Visitor Center. (Very well done and clearly meant for very well heeled potential donors, since it lets you know how much you need to contribute to have you name put on one of the galleries or other features. The entry rotunda will set you back $10 million. Inside, theater 1 is already spoken for, but $5 million will get you #2. If that's a bit too rich for your blood, a mere $1 million still gives you a choice of several different exhibit galleries!)
Seriously, the whole facility looks spacious, well thought out, and visitor friendly. And to put some minds at rest, most of the exhibit galleries are directly related to the campaign, the battle itself, and its aftermath, including galleries devoted to the Gettysburg Address, and, battlefield preservation. It looks to me like the kind of up-to-date, adequately sized facility the park has been needing for a long time, and a big improvement from the make-shift of the current VC, and, the botched and never really functional Cyclorama Center.
