Again, according to Gottfried:

"On the morning of July 1, the 35th Georgia [part of Thomas' brigade] 
was left behind to guard the wagon train. ... Orders suddenly arrived to 
rejoin the brigade, and the men trotted for about 3 miles to reach the 
brigade.

...

[The division] halted as they approached Gettysburg from the west and 
deployed on the north of the Chambersburg Pike, now on the left of the 
division. The brigade swept forward in line of battle for about a mile 
[from what point is this measured?] with its sister brigades."

It was later in the afternoon when the brigade was removed from line of 
battle to support Pegram's guns.
