I was listening to NPR this morning, and there is something called
"Industrial Theft" which is growing, people stealing copper (typically
cables, unfortunate side effect for the stupid thief: actual
electrocutions of some trying to steal live wires) and bronze (typically
large statues that are being melted down - one artist had 8
larger-than-life statues taken recently, and a major statue in
downtown(?) Toronto was just taken down, cut up and smelted).
Notwithstanding the concerns over the defacing of the statues last year,
does anyone know if the park is concerned regarding the safety of the
statues in general?
Sorry to go off topic here but I thought this might amuse.
I used to work as an engineer in an oxygen plant in Sheffield. around the
city is a 12 inch diameter pure oxygen pipeline running at that time I believe
around 23 miles or so feeding all the steelworks pure oxygen. The police were
called to som suspicious behavior at one of the remote storage sites only to
find a group of Gypsy's light acetylene cutters ready to burn off the bolts
holding the 12 inch bronze safety valve to the pipeline.
Would have been a heck of a big bang.
