I was at a roundtable where Bud Robertson was asked that-he said Jackson
would have been north of Harrisburg when Lee ordered him back and missed
the battle entirely-he said it very much tongue in cheek.

<<My favorite response to a "what if" was a battlefield guide
<<at Gettysburg (I forget which one) who, in response to a
<<question of "What if Stonewall Jackson had been at the battle
<<of Gettysburg?," replied, "Well, I expect he'd have been a
<<tad gamey, considering that he'd been dead for over a month."<g>

<<> Exactly my point as well, Jim. During 'what if' scenarios,
<<there seems
<<> to be the assumption that we can change a major portion of history,
<<> and assume that everything else remains as is. That's why I rarely
<<> engage in too much 'what iffing' (hey, a new phrase!) because as I
<<> stated in an earlier post, if you change one event, it's a what if;
<<> change two that are dependant on each other, and it becomes fantasy.
