My favorite response to a "what if" was a battlefield guide at Gettysburg (I forget which one) who, in response to a question of "What if Stonewall Jackson had been at the battle of Gettysburg?," replied, "Well, I expect he'd have been a tad gamey, considering that he'd been dead for over a month."<g>
