Well into PPT, Col. Eppa Hunton of the 8th VA (Garnett) had been hit in the
leg and taken off the field. Major Berkeley (8th VA) was placed in charge as
the 8th split at Codori. Berkeley was soon hit and ended up in Codori with
injured from both sides. The flag of the 8th was captured (16th VT) during battle
and not picked up later. The flag of the 8th was the EASTERN MOST CSA flag
captured in PPT. Captain J. Owens Berry, 8th VA, CoG was placed in command of the
regiment after the battle. He had survived PPT with only one bullet hole in
his new unifrom. With his exception, all men in his company (G) had been K,W or
C. Reckon what was the northern-most casualty in PPT for the 8th VA and how
could one Captain survive without a scratch.
