GDG- Re: Lee's food supply in 1863

By the Spring of 1863, Lee's army was increasingly depending on food from  
Georgia to keep it fed.  This crossed departmental lines (each being set up  to 
pretty much take care of itself) and forced Bragg's Army of Tennessee out of  
Georgia and into Alabama and Mississippi for the rest of the war for their  
food.  This forcing out created some severe food problems for Bragg in  June, 
1863 as the Tullahoma Campaign began.
 
In 1864 Lee stated, "without Georgia, Virginia cannot hold."  What he  meant 
by this was Georgia's gunpowder and food.
