The map is excellent, Jim. For years I had researched the deployments,
taking into account Calef's writings, 2nd USSS writings, and Confederate
accounts among others. Laino and Eric have it nailed, and it's a map you
haven't seen before.

The morning skirmishing that took place on July 2 is all but forgotten today
(everyone thinks the shooting started with Sickles and Longstreet) and the
article will bring several hours of very interesting stuff (which is very
germain to what happens the rest of the day) into the limelight.

Methinks Gary Gallagher would just hate the article :-)

<< He's quite right--my article will appear in the next issue of
Gettysburg Magazine. Phil Laino has mapped the deployment of
Buford's men on the morning of July 2 in detail for the first time,
and it definitely addresses the circumstances under which Buford was
ordered from the field. >>

>>Something I can't recall ever having seen before. Buford's July 2
deployment is generally discussed only in passing, and in very general
terms. I'll be looking forward to seeing it!
