GDG- An Offer and A Request

Hi all! I think I already communicated how fun and delightful it was to
see everyone at the Muster, my first.
Knowing the group's interest in the subject, I brought along some
photocopies of an article I wrote a couple of years ago about the
capture of African Americans during the Gettysburg Campaign. It
appeared in an expensive academic book, *Virginia's Civil War*, so it
hasn't been too widely available. I know a number of member's of the
group, or friends of the group, have written on this subject, including
James Epperson, Peter Vermilyea, Tom Ryan, Ted Alexander, Margaret
Creighton, etc. My contribution was researching for evidence in the
Confederate archives, rather than just among inhabitants of
Pennsylvania. I argue that units from throughout Lee's army were
involved (though not necessarily all units).
Even though I took steps to reserve the Internet rights, I haven't
concluded yet whether it makes the most sense for me to post this on the
GDG website or not. And I didn't get the copies distributed at the
Muster for a variety reasons - I'm shy and didn't want to seem to be
promoting myself during the other events.
I would be happy to send a copy free of charge to the first 20 people
who contact me saying they would like one. Please be patient, it may
take me a little time to get them all mailed.
Here is my request: Back when I first rejoined the group last April or
May (2006), someone posted within a day or two of my rejoining some
comments about a Union soldier's diary they had read in manuscript.
Among about ten things they highlighted, one of them was comments he
made about the capture of African Americans. Evidence of this sort is
very rare - could the person who posted that message (I thought it was
one of the ladies of the group) please contact me? I would love to get
a copy and citation of the comment.
Thanks!
David
