Also, as Alexander makes clear in his memoirs, the Confederate were short on long-range artillery ammunition, not short range. IIRR, while he didn't think Seminary Ridge was as good a position as Cemetery Ridge, it was still a good position, and the ANV, while suffering terrible losses, was still in good order and willing to fight.
