Tom,

Roads to Gettysburg is a useful tool for anyone studying the early part of
the campaign. It covers both armies with the exception of the cavalry. It
is organized similar to a journal format in which a daily record of movement
by corps is provided, plus a few details about the reasons for stopping and
starting again. It includes good maps with units plotted in their positions
as they progress northward. It is a documented study with plenty of
endnotes.

A companion book that I have found useful is Mark Nesbit's "35 Days to
Gettysburg: The Campaign Diaries of Two American Enemies." The information
in the daily diaries of a Georgia soldier and a Pennsylvania soldier provide
another perspective on the march northward with useful supplemental
information to Gottfried's book.

Regards, Tom
