Hi Jim -
Is there some reason why Norton's account in "The Attack and Defense of
Little Round Top" can't be taken seriously:
(pg. 265) "In a few moments the brigade arrived, with the regiments in
the following order: Forty-fourth New York, Sixteenth Michigan,
Eighty-third Pennsylvania, and Twentieth Maine."
He then goes on with the story about letting the 46 NY & 83 PA always
fighting together, and letting the 16 MI pass on by. Seeing as this
makes sense from the notion that the 16 MI ended up being right-most &
the 20 ME being left-most and also it making the most sense to snake the
brigade around the spur in the order they came - why hasn't this been
taken as "gospel" in this regard?
Alan
