And my copy of Issue 38 arrived in today's mail. The first two articles to
which I turned were Eric Wittenberg's "The Truth About the Withdrawal of
Brig. Gen. John Buford's Cavalry, July 2, 1863" (I confess that I was somewhat
relieved that Eric had not found evidence that it was all Phil Sheridan's
fault) and Keith Snipes's "A Rediscovered Bachelder Letter: North Carolinians in
'Pickett's Charge", given the primary focus of my own Gettysburg interess. I
was happy to see the maps in Snipes's article agree with my own perception
that only the very rightmost tip of Archer/Fry and Scales/Lowrance came near
the Outer Angle (an extremely minor quibble with the relevant maps in Bradley
Gottfried's new book is that these brigades are shown as being just a little
too far south).
