Laurie,

I don't want to get into contemporary politics (and get the infamous
"HOOK"), but I think there's another side of this story.  The power grid is
old and inadequate and cannot serve the needs of an ever-increasing
population and industry.  The black-outs of a few years ago have shown that.
There has to be some new high-powered hiways for getting electricity to the
places that need it-including the Midwest;>}.  The power companies will
spend many millions on this project to affect that.  I've read where
historical groups, environmentalists, etc. have proposed other corridors.
However the costs of these would take the price tag even higher.  I'm not
affiliated with any power company (except for the lines running into my
house, and the monthly $ I have to pay for them.), and I don't like the idea
of looking up from atop Little Round Top to see high tension lines running
along the skyline, but there are certain realities that must be considered.
I very strongly hope that compromises can be made to exclude the lines in
the effected historical areas.
