Hi Dave,

Re the book on the 7th at NJ. No I do not have it. But I have seen it. Its
published by Longstreet Publishing House. Dr. David Martin is the owner of
it. And he still has a number of them in stock.

Now onto NJ. I have Joe Bilbys Remember you are Jersey Men!! And I also have
the book by Ed Longacre on the 12th NJ. There is a book on the 7th NJ
service in the whole war, Titled Jersey Blues the Story of the 7th NJ
Volunteers in the Civil War.

I have also seen a regimental on the 11th NJ. I think Longstreet once again
is the primary publisher. I have spoke with Dave several times and there is
a new regimental coming out (just completed I understand) on the 5th NJ.

Most of what I have pieced together especially on the 7th, is from the
O.R.s and Joes book.

I just picked up the 1996 Morningside reprint of the Bachelder papers. I am
going to scan through them tonight to see what I can find on the 7 for you.

Your GG grandfathers name? And company?

As I noted the 7th is behind Clarke's Battery B New Jersey Light Artillery.
They take significant punishment from the artillery overs that occur during
the counter battery fire before the attack at the Orchard. That's where
Francine is mortally wounded.

If you would like, I will pass on what I do find as I continue to plow
through. BTW, do you have any letters papers, diaries that he wrote? Any
medals weapons? Pictures?

And last but not least, there is a living history group from NJ that
portrays the 7th NJ. I have the email address for them if you are
interested.

Last but not least, I took several new and up close pictures of the 7ths
monument at GB yesterday. I can forward them if you would like.

Regards,
Jim Lamason

Jim--

My great-grandfather was in the 7th NJ - he caught malaria, though,
during the Peninsula Campaign, and was in the Veteran's Reserve Corps
later in the war.

We still follow the career of the unit throughout the war, however.

I think I have asked you before, but do you have the slim little volume
- I think it is about the 7th or the 7th at Gettysburg - I believe it
was published to memorialize Francine's death.

If I remember correctly, the 7th was positioned in reserve with the
clear purpose of being battery supports, which is what they did before
they had to fall back.

HI Dave,

In researching New Jersey at Gettysburg, I have been stunned by the
ferocity of fighting in front of and around the artillery units.
Batteries like Seelys and then Clarkes were in the middle of a
firestorm. Seelys supported by members of Carrs and Burlings Brigade
with Graham thrown in for good measure is an incredible story unto
itself.

Clarkes Battery B is another one. They fired over 1300 rounds!!!!!!!
For 6 guns that's something over 230 rounds per gun!

The 9th Mass- Bigelows boys is another one. Turnbull you have
mentioned..

Then put the infantry into the mix, like the 5th NJ and 11th NJ, and the
7th NJ the story is so incredible.

Thanks for a great email. And also thanks for Battle between the Farm
Lanes.
