Yep - those 3 inch Ordnance rifles of Simonson's 5th Indiana Light  Artillery 
did a good job with that one.  They also single-handedly stopped  the 
Confederate attack on the first day of Resaca until they were reinforced by  
infantry.  They held up a whole division with their fire.
 
If you have not been on top of Pine Mountain, the site where Polk was  killed 
is marked by an early 20th Century marker and the redoubts of Renee  
Beauregard's SC battery (the son of the CS general) are very close  by.  This is on 
private property but the land owner allows visitors there  and keeps a path cut 
in the summer for access.
