33rd time is a charm for GBPA collectors show
GETTYSBURG, June 27 The 33rd annual edition of the Gettysburg Battlefield Preservation Associations Civil War Collectors Show held June 22-24 at the Eisenhower All Sports Center was the best one yet, especially in the enormous amount of artifacts and documents on display. Many Civil War collectors and buffs turn out to feast on the displays.
In addition to approximately 140 vendors who make the show possible, there were two other special incentives to attend. The Heritage Auction Galleries showed off the hundreds of items it was to sell over two days following the collectors show, including a bejeweled silver and gold presentation sword given Gen. Ulysses S. Grant in 1864 and Gen. George Armstrong Custers personal battle flag sewn by his wife, Libby.
The GBPA show also featured the first large-scale display of the Professor J. Howard Wert Collection of rare and fascinating artifacts. For the first time in over a century, the collections major pieces collected by the Wert-Houghtelin family members from the Revolutionary War through the Civil War era were on view together. The collection received the shows most educational award for its outstanding walk through history.
I hope our mutually-beneficial relationship with Heritage Auction Galleries is just beginning, said GBPA president Kathi Schue
GBPAs proceeds from the collectors show will go toward the continuing work to preserve and restore the historic Daniel Lady farm owned by the association and for other educational programs and projects.
