HI Dave,

Couldn't the same be said of Lt Stewarts Battery? They lose a gun as well
IIRC.

There are so many acts on July 1 that are fascinating...

Again? I do believe many other battery commanders who participated at the
Battle of Gettysburg could just as easily claim that it was they who bore
the
brunt of "the battle at Gettysburg." As passionate as Hall's entrance,
execution
and withdraw were (not to mention he was returned to field of battle after
been having retired to Cemetery Hill) I can think of many batteries who were

equal to that title if not more so than the 2nd Maine, I'm taking anything
from
Hall whatsoever. But the fact he mentioned "the battle at Gettysburg" and
NOT
July 1st lumps into a category like that of the 1st Minnesota being the
savior
of the AOP. Did in fact Hall's boys bore the brunt of battle at
Gettysburg?" Even July 1st is questionable.

EXAMPLE: One cannot exclude Lieutenant Benjamin Wilbur's ( 1st NY Batt L
(Reynolds/Breck) sections engagement July 1st at the McPherson Farm in the
afternoon when he led the last Union gun off that field. Yep, that is right,
one gun
(rifle actually) only as one was lost in vicious hand to hand combat after
having been surrounded by men from Pettigrew's command (Brockenbraugh thus
after
being ordered to hold at all costs. With he help or 150th PA Wilber cut
his
way out with little more than gratitude from Hunt being placed on him.

I do believe Hall's claim that he "bore brunt of battle at Gettysburg 'could

and would be challenged by many veterans who participated in the three-day
struggle. As for July First ... ????
