Some of the campaigns of Marlborough, Frederick the Great, and even  
Napoleon, were fought in areas that were not that large (depending on the scope  of 
the campaign), and yet all three great commanders used maneuver as part of  
them.  Sun Tzu once wrote that the good commander fights with what he has,  and 
this can be paraphrased also as the good commander fights wherever he is and  
however he can.
 
While the East was smaller, there were enough campaigns of maneuver for  both 
sides to show that it was not impossible to do, and that included more  
amphibious campaigns that seem to have dropped off the charts after the Seven  Days.
