The Army of Tennessee was very nearly smashed at Missionary Ridge too. They
lost the bulk of their artillery and wagons (those left after giving a bunch
to Longstreet to get his army into East Tennessee) and loads of prisoners as
well. It took several months to rebuild it before the Atlanta Campaign
began in May, 1864.

The Union army at Richmond, KY in 1862 was destroyed by Edmund Kirby Smith.
Of some 8000 troops on the field, the casualty rate was in the 75 per cent
of the entire command range with some 5000 being taken prisoner. This
happened because of a proper use of cavalry by the Confederates who were able to
envelop the Union line causing their rout and then pursuing them. The Battle of
Nashville was also won thanks to aggressive Union cavalry under James
Wilson, on both days enveloping the Confederate lines, and then going into an
aggressive pursuit.
