In studying Day 3 you will find numerous reports from Pettigrew's brigades
that they broke the Union defensive line north of the Angle, etc. Upon sober
reflection, it appears that they did no such thing. But in the confusion of
battle and in their ignorance of the realities of the Union defenses, Pettigrew's
men were undoubtedly sincere in their belief. Is it not possible, even
probable, that Right's units' experience was similar?
