Don replies:

all the evidence I have examined leads me to conclude that the 48th Georgia left companies extended to a point directly in front of the middle of the 69th line (probably Companies C and E) All the accounts from the men of the 69th talk about the regiment firing to their southwest at Wright's Georgians.

Quite frankly, in order for Chuck's version of Wright's attack to be correct (i.e. Wright's Georgians piercing the
union line north of the copse and then taking Cushing's and Arnold's guns) our friend Chuck is going to have to openly proclaim that the 69th was driven from their wall position on July 2 (somehow with the loss of only two men from the right companies) OR that the 69th turned around and ran away as Wright approached.
If you measure the distance from the angle to the right company of the 69th (Co I) there is not enough room for an entire regiment the size of the 48th Ga to fit through (That is why the 71st Pa the next day could only fit 4 companies (K,G,H,C) in that space

Don,

Just as a further follow up to your post detailing the 69th's alignment and
losses by company, what is your take on the action in the 69th's sector that
day? Did Wright's left extend far enough north to lap, or front, the
69th's line?
