Just to play Devil's advocate for a second, why would you say that it's
"obvious' that they didn't suffer the bulk of their casualties during 'the
charge'? On July 3rd they were in the epicenter of a much larger and more
concentrated attack than occured on July 2nd, regardless of what you or I
think about the exact placement of the latter.  Therefore it stands to
reason that they would have suffered the bulk of theio casualties on July
3rd, absent any definate account that they were in as likewise heavy a
combat on the second.

Most of the evidence that's been presented here seems to show that their
casualties on July 2nd were relatively light, and concentrated in the left
most companies.  Which would seem to support the 'conventional wisdom', that
has Wright hitting just south of them, with only his left coming into
contact with the left of the 69th, roughly in front of the 'Copse of trees'.
