Oddly, I've found a reference to Group Captain Biggles and Cardinal in an obscure "hysterical" (must be an alternate spelling of historical) group in the UK back in the 1970s. Mayhaps one of these is our dear Ira?

Wondering if "Biggles in the Blue" is actually about his time as a Union balloonist,
