Why?  This always seems to be your tact, Chuck.  When a controversy arises,
you always seem to start out by laying out a few things, and trying to get
everyone to agree to them.  Then you launch into "since everyone agrees with
my initial assumptions, then it's impossible to understand why everyone
doesn't think my resulting interpretations are right" scenario.

This isn't the first step of sound historical method.

Sorry to be so blunt, but it's predictable.  And your initial assumptions
would lead into a misinterpretation right off the bat, because contradictory
statements from participants are absolutely normal and expected.
