It was Sickles who thought Jackson was retreating at C'Ville.  He in turn
told Hooker, who in turn told Howard to send Barlow to Sickles to help in
the "pursuit".

I agree - strange enough but then Howard thought Jackson was 
retreating at Chancellorsville. Sometime you see what you want to 
see, facts be darned.
