David,
Oh, my gosh! 50-100 articles! Well, we¹ll see how far I get. This might
end up being a ³when I retire² project.
It does sound as if they should be published. Thanks so much for your info.
I¹ll do what I can when I find time and send along to the GDG.

Great little columns, huh? J. Howard Wert was a prolific writer and local
historian. I'd say he wrote upwards of 50, maybe 100 such articles
concerning the Battle of Gettysburg, the old history of the town, and
Gettysburg College (which he attended).
They are under various titles, not just "Little Stories of Gettysburg". You
are looking in the right place - start around 1906 and go to around 1908
and you will find dozens and dozens of articles in the Star and Sentinel.
They appear every 2 weeks or so. Fortunately he numbered each series ("LV"
would be item 55), so you can know if you missed one. They are a real
resource - someone should republish them. There may be more articles in the
Harrisburg press, I am not sure - he moved to Harrisburg in 1898.
You will find extracts from several pieces related to the UGRR in Craig
Caba's "Episodes of Gettysburg and the Underground Railroad" booklet, c.
1998 (Caba is a descendant of Wert's). But there were scores of other
articles on local politics, practical jokes, agriculture, the battle, etc.
