Dave,
A few things:
1) I have never believed for a moment that Cushing's guns or any others
north of the copse were ever taken by Wright's Brigade. Their path seemed to
be, base don what I have read and the maps I have seen, aimed at the copse with
their left flank and south of the copse with the rest of the brigade. Thus
any guns taken by them had to be before the wall itself.
2) Key was too busy and badly estimated the number of guns from wherever he
was when he did that estimate. Your evidence had proven his number
incorrect. That is the one part of his account I had the most trouble with actually.
3) Thanks for seeing my point where I stated that I don't believe that
Wright's men ever reached the actual crest of the ridge, which would have been
beyond the stone wall. I have not, to date, read any account that states they
reached the topographical crest of the ridge.
4) With regards to the "we" who bow down to you in terms of your knowledge
of Federal artillery in the battle, it was made in the sincerest form of
flatter I assure you. I would assume that many GDG types know very well your gun
knowledge and bow down to you in that regard. I bow down to Howard Madaus
for Civil War flags knowledge and do the same to you for your vast knowledge
of Union guns in this battle. I know of no one that knows as much about them
as you do. That was what I meant and if taken otherwise, I apologize for not
being more clear.
Best,
Greg Biggs
