Richard Rollins' book "The Damned Red Flag of the Rebellion" states:
"In the fighting Sgt. James Wiley of the 59th New York, in Col. Norman
Hall's Brigade just south of the copse of trees, captured the flag of the 48th
Georgia and was later awarded the Medal of Honor for his effort."
It should be noted that the 82nd New York also claimed this flag. This unit
was posted closer to the road and the latter NY unit closer to the stone
wall. If indeed it was the 59th NY that took that flag, it got further up the
ridge than the Codori house it would seem. Harry Pfanz's book seems to
indicate that the flag was taken closer to the wall as well.
