What a shock. I considered Becky a good friend. I first met her at one of
the Women's History Symposiums and we shared stories of our dogs and cats,
LOL. Becky was a former Michiganian and when I asked her what she missed
from here, she said Vernor's Ginger Ale so many 12 packs of the stuff went
out to Gettysburg with me. Whenever I saw a sale I stocked up. She was a
great sounding board and provider of advice when I was researching Kate
Hewitt (well, do we ever stop?) and she was one of the first persons I
called after I first stood at her grave. My last memory of her is her
standing up on Culp's Hill this past April at the Battle Seminar with Sue
Boardman, giving their talk. I remember her leaning on her walking stick
pointing out different things and telling us the story of that part of the
battle with great enthusiasm. Just today something relating to Kate came in
the mail from the historian out in NY and it saddens me that I won't be able
to share it with her. I will truly miss her. What a great loss to
Gettysburg. She knew her stuff. It will never be the same without her.
