Happy Birthday General Meade! Lisa Malandra & I conducted a tour of Laurel Hill Cemetery last September. It was mostly a Civil War tour, but we included a few other notables, the Godey's, Sarah Hale, businessmen, scoundrels, scholars, spiritualists & businessmen. We indeed had a champagne toast at Meade's grave. If anyone wants to see some photos, drop me an email!

While on the topic of "death" there are two new books out that I highly recommend, THIS REPUBLIC IS SUFFERING and BURYING THE DEAD BUT NOT THE PAST.
Also out, Mark Twain's Civil War, Sherman's Forgotten General: Slocum, and The Irish General: Meagher. Ahh, so many books, so little reading time!
