LBGs are not required to join the ALBG; it is up to each guide. Every guide has an agreement with the park service to provide guided tours, and they pay a fee to the NPS. The amount of the fee depends on whether they are part-time or full-time guides. In addition, people who are not guides are allowed to join the ALBG as associate, non-voting members.

Subject: GDG- 80% of the parks licensed guides?

Esteemed GDG Member Contributes:

"The 125-person group makes up 80 percent of the park’s licensed guides, which stands now at 150 people. Non members, Hohmann said, were invited to participate in the ballot, and most cooperated." ---Scot Pitzer, Gettysburg Times

So, who are the other 20% (25) guides?

"The past is not dead. It is not even passed." William Faulkner
