There was a modern equivalent to a "barn-raising" during our visit.  At
one end of a hall, museum staff was guiding a school group assembling a
geodesic dome.  At the other end, another school group were "building" a
house...

<<The National Building Museum is one of DC's hidden gems.  If you want
to get away from the crowds on the mall, this is a great place to enjoy
without throngs of folks.  I have done this while in DC on the 4th of
July, when the mall area is a mass of people.  They once had a barn
raising in the center hall.
