The Pension Building *is* one of the great buildings in DC.

Check http://away.com/primedia/arts_arch/pension_building.html

One point of interest in the quartermaster wagon on the repeating frieze:
the driver is obviously African-American. Meigs took some heat for that but
insisted on a black teamster, "must be a negro, a plantation slave, freed by
war"

See also Wikipedia, s.v., "National Building Museum."

Take care,

Bob

The National Building Museum is one of DC's hidden gems. If you want to get
away from the crowds on the mall, this is a great place to enjoy without
throngs of folks. I have done this while in DC on the 4th of July, when the
mall area is a mass of people. They once had a barn raising in the center
hall.
