That makes a lot more sense now.  I had never seen that kind of crossing 
of wires of the college for the seminary, to be honest.  I was assuming 
that they had tracked back along the northern fencelines of the College 
over to the Seminary, then into town via the Chambersburg corridor. 

The south-western quadrant of town makes sense, as the maps seem to 
suggest this is the most heavily built section of the town with, most 
importantly, the fewest alleys leading out of the backyards.  If he's 
confusing the College and Seminary, he's most likely misremembering 
streets and turns as well, so I'd (in light of this evidence) wager he's 
talking about the alleys behind the College Church, north of Middle Street.

Interesting nonetheless.

They never get to the York or Stratton Street side of town.  I don't know what specific buildings are referred to, but suspect the action described takes place in the area bounded by Chambersburg St., Baltimore St, and S. Washington St.
