GDG- Last Living Gettysburg Combatant Was...?

<< Issue 16 (1997) of Gettyusburg Magazine has an article entitled 
"Gettysburg's Last Surviving Soldier: James Marion Lurvey December 2, 
1847-September 17, 1950.

14 years old at the time of the battle, he was a drummer boy who served in 
the medical corp.

The article states he was  orginally part of the 40th Mass, company A.  He 
was a Cambell Hospital and  "While temporarily with Companies 5 1nd 11 of 
the  'Invalid Corps" was released and ordered north to Pennsylvania." >>

I recall thinking at the time I first read that article that the business 
about how he came to be at Gettysburg didn't sound particularly convincing. 
Still doesn't.....
