You are invited to visit the Historic Gettysburg Railroad Station (35
Carlisle Street) for an open house on Saturday, December 15, from
10:00
a.m.-6:00 p.m. for light refreshments and a free memento. We will have
a Victorian Santa distributing candy canes and volunteers who will
provide free tours of the facility. Autographed copies of Gerry
Bennett's booklet on "The Gettysburg Railroad Station" will also be
      available for a $5.00 donation.

The building is on the National Register of Historic Places and is
open
free of charge to the general public on a daily basis from 10:00
a.m.-4:00 p.m. This historic train station was built in 1859, it is
believed that President Abraham Lincoln actually entered the train
station when he arrived on November 18-19, 1863 to dedicate the
national
cemetery, was used as a field hospital during the Battle of
Gettysburg,
and provided commercial telegraph service from 1866 until the mid
1900s.
Passenger service to and from Gettysburg ended on December 31, 1942,
at
which time the cars were turned over to the U.S. War Department to
help
meet the growing need for rail transportation of service men.

The Pennsylvania Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission (a commission
appointed by Governor Ed Rendell headquartered at the Civil War
Institute) has office space at the train station, so we invite you to
drop in during your lunch hour or anytime throughout the day for a
brief
tour. Throughout the month of December we will also have a special
model of Lincoln's Springfield house on display-very impressive
exhibit!

Help spread the word that this historic building is open and well
worth
      seeing!

Please note that the station is closed on holidays and the first two
      weeks of January.

      Tina
